My Concept

Brief Rationale

My creation myth is that the Americans (NASA) are taking the Dinosaurs from Earth to Mars and raising the Dinosaurs on Mars to support their Research of life on Mars. They are however discovered by the Russians (their rivals) that they have been doing this.

The colours I used were oranges and reds mainly because it illustrates the environment of mars better.

I decided to use more of a traditional style of media because I thought it suited my idea better with the slightly sketchy composition. The style of composition also suits the magazine that I would display my image in of New Scientist.

I used some visual hierarchy and scale with the arrangement of dinosaurs coming out of the American spaceship to add depth to the image. I wanted the dinosaurs coming out of the ship to be the focal point so they are bigger in scale than the other images in my image. The composition is slightly asymmetrical as I wanted to lead the eye from the dinosaurs coming out of the ship to the Russian astronaut seeing the dinosaurs.

I added a wired fence to show that the dinosaurs are being contained on mars. The astronaut closest to the ship is holding a pitchfork which represents their aggressive nature to the Dinosaurs and forcing them to live on Mars. I also added a western type house to represent the Americans creating a farm like atmosphere containing the Dinosaurs.

Final Image

3 Developed Thumbnails

First thumbnail developed towards the interim. Found out that the Image wasn't portraying my concept as clear as I thought so I went back to sketching more thumbnails and layouts to develop a clearer narrative. I however, liked the use of the Dinosaur being the focal point viewing the spaceship flying away back to earth.

Developed Thumbnail with the addition of a Russian astronaut finding out that the Dinosaurs are coming out of the spaceship. I tried to create a visual flow that lead the eye to the Russian astronaut ,but I found the visual flow of the composition was confusing how it weaved too much across the page and there wasn't a clear focal point. I also found out I needed to research more on the look of spaceships and the earth in space. This helped to improve the reading of my image.

Developed from the previous thumbnails I found that having the dinosaurs in a line out of the spaceship worked the best. I also added the western farm house fence and the addition of two astronauts. One riding a Dinosaur and one with a pitchfork. I wanted to show the Dinosaurs being forced to live there.
